SBAA Board of Directors Meeting

24 July 2008 at 6:30 P.M.

Present: Des O'Neill, Jim Sloan, Wally Marantette, Bill Rupp, Rob Olson, Jill Zachary, Joe Howell, Patsy Dorsey, Elaine Campo, John Brennand, Rusty Snow, Kevin Young. Not present: Jim Kornell Acting secretary: Kevin Young.

Jill Zachary and Rob Olson were voted on the board.

Jim Sloan was voted President (a position Des O'Neill has held for 40 years) and Rob Olson was voted Treasurer (a position John Brennand has held for 48 years). The club is deeply indebted to Des and John for their many years of dedicated service.

Des O'Neill stated that there were new bylaws for the club. He will check the maximum number of board members and report. The Board now has 13 members, if our bylaws limit the number to 12, then Joe Howell agreed to step down from the board.

A subcommittee of Jill Zachary, Des O'Neil and Jim Sloan was formed to propose a new SBAA shirt, racing singlet and cap.

Financial status was discussed in camera. The club is financially healthy and able to continue to put on the races it sponsors.

John Brennand commented on the amount of work required to put on the rescheduled Semana Nautica 15k. It was close to twice the amount of work of putting on the original. .

The SB International Marathon (SBIM) scheduled for Dec 09 by Rusty Snow was discussed. It will have a limited field, family festival, a half marathon, a corporate relay and marathon relay. The race starts in Goleta and finishes at the SBCC track. It was discussed whether to combine the SBAA half marathon with the SBIM. Some advantages (economies of scale) and disadvantages ($$ splitting, tradition) were discussed. A sub-committee of Patsy, Elaine, John, Wally and Rusty was formed to discuss further.

The $1000 promised to Kevin Young's Run for Life kid's running program was funded. The Run for Life program is a series of runs and events aimed at getting kids involved in running. There is no cost to the kids participating. Kevin assured the board that all races and events carried the proper insurance.

Social events were discussed, no action taken. There are plenty of groups getting together for runs - see web site. No one wanted to start a singles SBAA group, interval sessions were not advanced since the SBAA/Rusty training program has intervals, no action taken on a racing team, and there was no second to the motion of meeting monthly.

Mike Dungan sent several items to the board for review. These items were presented to the board but no action was taken due to time limitations.

The next meeting scheduled for October.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:30.
